With extensive cellar experience from Australia to Burgundy, Blair became winemaker at Felton Road in Central Otago for the inaugural 1997 vintage, quickly earning a reputation as one of New Zealand’s top producers of pinot noir.
Where did you grow up?
On a farm in rural Waikato (15km south of Hamilton)
When did you know you were destined for a career in wine?
While working my fourth vintage in Oregon and realising the combination of hard physical work, science and art was definitely very unique providing amazing diversity and job satisfaction

Yes
Any other hidden talents?
Recently completing my childhood dream of attaining my private pilot’s license.
What is your most memorable wine experience?
Tasting the full compliment of 2007 wines at Mosel producer Fritz Haag with Wilhelm and being brought to tears by the absolute purity, precision and incredible consistent quality of the wines.
Your favourite food or wine indulgence?
A dinner party with friends sharing great bottles

How do you like to relax when you’re not working?
Enjoying the endless outdoor recreational opportunities that abound in Central Otago including sailing, mountain biking, tramping….followed by a fine hoppy microbrew.
