Dan Stock is the Herald Sun Food Editor and a restaurant reviewer at large. His work in the Sun’s Taste section and Weekend magazine makes him the right guy to give the rundown of our 2017 Melbourne Food & Wine Festival.
For more information, check out the full program here or pick up our Festival Highlights Guide at various locations around Melbourne, including the Prahran Market.
1 – The House of Food & Wine
Presented by Sensis
This is going to be so much fun! Whether for after-work drinks or delicious and decadent dinners, this bustling hub will be the place to be over the Festival. See you there.
31 March – 9 April, various events
2 – River Graze
Presented by Melbourne Water
Wandering along the Yarra eating great food and drinking delicious drinks is the best way to spend the opening weekend of the Festival. Great for the whole family.
31 March – 2 April, free
3 – Regional World’s Longest Lunches
From Daylesford to the Yarra Valley, Gembrook to Geelong, this year’s longest lunches set all around regional Victoria are the perfect excuse to get out of town.
31 March, various locations, $90-$178
4 – MasterClass
What a way to celebrate 25 years of the festival. Teaming up with the World’s 50 Best Restaurant awards, this year’s MasterClasses feature eight incredible chefs whose restaurants have featured on the list. I’m especially looking forward to Gaston Acurio from Peru, Tokyo’s rising star Zaiyu Hasegawa and Carlo Cracco from Milan in action.
1-2 April, tickets just $35
5 – Something new…
With more than 300 incredible food and wine events on offer, there is something for everyone. From rooftop parties to laneway pop-ups, regional getaways to hands on experiences, my advice is to get stuck in and try something new. Browse the full program here.
