Foodie fun on the Yarra

This year we’re cooking up an opening weekend full of festivities – no reservations necessary.

So rally up the troops with the biggest appetites and take a stroll from Birrarung Marr through to South Wharf for Open Kitchen.

Southbank’s Red Stair amphitheatre will be a hub of activity over the weekend. Diabetes Australia-Vic will doll out a healthy dose of inspiration with delicious breakfast demonstrations from Breakfast around The Tan.

SBS’s top chefs, Shane Delia (Spice Journey), Matthew Evans (Gourmet Farmer), Adam Liaw (Destination Flavour) and Poh Ling Yeow (Poh & Co.) will teach hungry onlookers the tricks of the trade from salt and pepper Moreton Bay bugs to Tandoori style latchet fish. Full line up and running times below.

Walk the path of temptation down Sweet Alley presented by Mirvaca laneway of edible entertainment, indulgent treats, and incredibly creative desserts from Fancy Schmancy apples, Burch & Purchese, Little Box Brownie, N2 Extreme Gelato and many more.

Further up at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre’s Plenary Lawn, Melbourne’s favourite food trucks will assemble to feed the masses.

Supported by IVECO Trucks Australia, festival-goers can dig into grub from Beatbox Kitchen, Gorilla Grill, Greek Street Food, Lil’ Nomnoms and Taco Truck. Top tip: do the rounds to avoid succumbing to some serious food

Crown's Alfresco Kitchen will be a grassy oasis of roving entertainment featuring food from The Merrywell Gradi and Mövenpick ice cream, roving stilt walkers and entertainers, face painting and activities for the kids, as well as plenty of live music to wile the afternoon away.

Down near the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets, Federation Square's restaurants and cafes will be putting on a riverside market during Fed Square Harvest.

Make sure you pack a healthy appetite for a day out along the Yarra as there will be plenty of other foodie activities along with way, including free food and wine tastings, gourmet stallholders and exciting activities for all ages.

Come celebrate the opening weekend of the Festival with us!
