St Kilda Beach’s Captain Baxter has a new look just in time for warm weather and beach days all summer – picture a pavilion structure with a palette of white, timbers and lush greenery. The new menu feels relaxed and fresh for great beachside dining with dishes like the Cold Seafood platter of seasonal crustaceans, cured cobia and salt-baked Kingfish.
From Shannon Bennett, the brains behind the Vue Group's Vue de Monde and Iki-jime comes Barista by Vue, a CBD coffee joint with sustainability on its mind and indulgent pastries on its menu. Coffee comes hot from Five Senses in reusable cups while lunch is fresh from Vue Group chefs, complete with salads and sandwiches for that midday pitstop.
In a nod to old school Lygon Street, Bar Romantica is a refresh of the 30-year-old Café Romantica. Transformed into a local late-night spot with a 60s espresso-bar vibe, the menu features dishes like the tomato and for di latte pizza (with or without ‘nduja) and a classic beef tartare with a fermented chilli twist.

A contemporary and inventive Japanese eatery in a 108-year-old Richmond site, brought to you by the team from Collingwood’s Congress wine bar. With sweet-potato crisps and mandarin-infused tea on the house, menu highlights include chicken-skin yakitori skewers, pork belly donburi with yuzu salt and the HUGE okonomiyaki wit provolone cheese and Kewpie mayonnaise.
