The Press Club
Kick back in a booth at The Press Club. George Colambaris’ fine diner on Flinders Street is cool, quirky and almost Scandi in design. The menu however is all George. That is to say Greek done beautifully. For RestEx it’s classic potato skordalia to start or a lemon yoghurt to finish. In between enjoy a delicious beef Horta with malted Tarama.
Chef Shane Delia and his team create playful and full flavoured Middle Eastern food like nothing you’ve tasted before. Maha uses a fresh, innovative and unrestricted approach to redefine this ancient cuisine, with dishes like the cinnamon butter poached chicken breast on the RestEx menu. Or try the glazed beef rump cap as your main.
Hellenic Republic Kew
Another dining room from the George Calombaris stable. The Hellenic Republic interpretation of George’s roots is a back-to-basics approach. Served family style, the delicious 2-course sharing menu for RestEx features mezethes and mains paired with a glass of wine/beer and coffee/tea.
Grossi Florentino Upstairs
To quote a glowing review from the Good Food Guide, “Restaurants come and restaurants go, but Florentino is forever.”
Florentino Upstairs from Melbourne food icon Guy Grossi is steeped in tradition with affectionate contemporary expression. The dining experience here is luxurious, the hospitality impeccable. For RestEx, it’s classics all the way. Your choice of entrée or dessert, and for main a choice between flathead, short rib or lamb. All of them delicious. You can’t go wrong. So go more than once.
Located on the edge of Melbourne's CBD over-looking the Carlton Gardens and Royal Exhibition Building this dining room is classic Melbourne. Epocha is nestled in a grand Victorian terrace with a menu offering dishes that tell a story of humble origins of in Europe. RestEx here is a choice of perfectly executed classic European.
Gingerboy is Melbourne's original fusion hawker restaurant. The broodingly romantic younger sibling to the eponymous EZARD, Gingerboy is a buzzing dining room, lofty upstairs cocktail bar and quintessential Melbourne laneway experience all in one. With that in mind, the RestEx menu is a nod to hawker classics from South East Asia. Pork and shitake dumplings to start, soy braised wagyu brisket, or to finish a dark chocolate tofu cheesecake.
Lucy Liu is eclectic, multicultural Asian and a great place for sharing plates. Street food inspired dishes pack big flavours into small bites. From the RestEx menu, a must-try is the Cantonese steamed blue cod fillet and the Lychee Knickerbocker Glory dessert.
