Stephanie Alexander’s top picks for the Festival

An inspiring woman in her own right, Stephanie Alexander is extremely active in the world of food from the ground up, from tending her own extensive garden; her mission to change the way children think about growing food through her Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation; as well as her recently launched The Cook’s Companion app.

Stephanie shares her top picks from this year’s program.

  1. Art of the Table, National Gallery of Victoria, 28 February - 13 March: this will be a must. I am sure there will be elegant table services and accoutrements to marvel at.
  2. The Gastronomy of Southern Spain, MoVida Aqui, 1 March: I had a very happy holiday many years ago in Almeria, the forgotten corner of Spain. I am sure that this session will evoke memories.

  3. Australian Artisan Cheese Fair, Northcote Town Hall, Northcote, 2 March: will be fascinating. Every year that passes brings us more varieties of cheese and it will be marvellous to 'meet the makers'.

  4. Wild Food Walkalong the Maribyrnong,Maribyrnong River,Footscray, 6 March: promises to be fun as well as instructive. Who knows what will be discovered and tasted?

  5. Mrs Straughton’s High Tea, Eynesbury Homestead, 16 March: This event fascinates me as I do love this style of homestead architecture. History as well as scones between 2.00pm and 5.30pm - perfect.
