Festival friend Matt Preston (food critic, writer and TV presenter) shares his event picks for the Festival this year.

“As one of the world’s biggest and very best food festivals, MFWF is a party for your mind, your stomach and your palate. It is also constantly surprising and always engaging.”

Top events for OUTDOOR and MARKETS:

Dandenong World Fare, Dandenong Market, Dandenong, 3 March, Free

Go West, ‘Mother Earth’, The Maribyrnong Boathouse, Moonee Ponds, 1 March, Free

CWA State Fair: Plant to Plate, The Country Women’s Association of Victoria Inc, Toorak, 2 March,Free

Other events Matt loves:

“Langham Melbourne MasterClass is always on my itinerary, but equally as enthralling is Theatre of Ideas where some of the world’s greatest culinary thinkers share their knowledge and obsessions.

This year Magnus Nilsson from the uber-cool Faviken is the main drawcard but expect Canada’s Michael Stadtländer to also have lightbulbs switching on above the heads of the audience.

In place of last year’s Fire MasterClass – one of the best events on the program – is this year’s Earth MasterClass, which promises to be just as enthralling… even if they have made a horrendous error with this year’s choice of MC.

Still, the presence of Ed Kenney from Town in Honolulu and Massimo Spigaroli from Antica Corte Pallavicina in Parma Italy should more than make up for the booboo.”
