About Slow Food

Slow Food is an international not-for-profit organisation that brings together ethics and pleasure, ecology and gastronomy. Founded by Carlo Petrini in Italy in 1989, Slow Food counters the demise of local food traditions around the world and the disconnection between the food we eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.

Slow Food is much more than the opposite of fast food. It's about using local seasonal produce, restoring time-honoured methods of food production and preparation, understanding the ethical implications of our food choices and sharing food at a convivial table. Today, the Slow Food movement counts more than 80,000 members in 121 countries around the world, with Slow Food members gathering in small, local groups known as convivia.
