1 St Heliers St
Abbotsford Convent
Abbotsford, 3067

Once the largest charitable institution in the southern hemisphere, Abbotsford Convent was home to 1,100 women and girls by 1901, many of them placed here in residential care. Some laboured in the laundry and some worked the land. It was a true farm-to-table lifestyle, but convent life had a dark side, too, and institutionalisation was not always kind to the residents.

In honour of this rich history, Hestia - named for the greek goddess of the hearth and home, brings together Sian Redgrave (Chef), Rose Richards & Dom Gattemayr (Florian), Julieanne Blum, Sophie O'kane, Anna Clifford, Stephannie Liu (Julie Restaurant) for three evenings & a Sunday lunch of locally produced food and wine at Abbotsford Convent restaurant Julie.

You're invited to take a guided tour of the venue half an hour before the meal, too, led by the convent's historians.
