A new wave of talent is bringing fresh ideas and energy to Indian food in Australia right now, and this March three of its most exciting exemplars, Harry Mangat, Helly Raichura and Mischa Tropp, bring that excitement to the World’s Longest Brunch, presented by Cocobella.
It’s a three-course feast of flavour and a beautiful day out that you won’t want to miss. Harry Mangat, the brains behind the nomadic Biji Dining project, opens proceedings in style with his take on chaat, which sees local snapper, cucumber, tomato, tamarind, Cocobella coconut yoghurt and lemon myrtle masala topped with the crunch of cumin-scented papdi crackers, crisp curry leaves and saltbush.
Mischa Tropp takes the reins for the main course, channelling the gutsy deliciousness that has characterised the work he does under the We Are Kerala flag, and that’s central to his plans for Toddy Shop, his brand-new Fitzroy eatery. Here he presents that classic of Goan tradition, the ros omelette, made here with Honest Eggs dressed in a chicken curry gravy and served with pao, the Portuguese-style soft white bread rolls.
Bringing it all home is Helly Raichura, showing all the elegance and ingenuity that have made her Carlton fine-diner Enter Via Laundry one of the most talked-about Indian restaurants in the country. She closes our brunching in high style with falooda, that sweet classic of Mughlai cuisine given a local touch with rosella jelly and fragrant Geraldton wax layered in with vanilla custard, vermicelli, toasted cashew nuts, elderflower and basil seeds.
Each ticket to the World’s Longest Brunch, includes a three-course brunch designed by Harry Mangat, Helly Raichura and Mischa Tropp and prepared by MFWF’s official catering partner, Peter Rowland Group, with a prosecco on arrival from Pizzini Wines, coffee from Melbourne’s own Inglewood Coffee Roasters, plus water from Capi, samples of Honest Eggs, Cocobella coconut yoghurt and coconut water, and a gift-bag tote from Cargo Crew, for a bundle of good times.
This event is cashless; bring along a credit or debit card for purchases. This year, tickets to the World’s Longest Brunch will be sold in multiples of two. Book with your whole party to ensure you're seated together. The standard menu is free of shellfish and red meat. It contains dairy, nuts, and gluten. Vegetarian and low-gluten options are also available.
