A degustational journey through Chinese-Australian history.
David's restaurant is a visual timeline of David Zhou's family history and journey as an immigrant to Australia and the mark he made in Melbourne from tea shop owner to proud restaurateur. Chinese immigration has played a pivotal role in shaping the truly multicultural food scene in Melbourne.
David's will be transforming into a museum-social dining event for one night only, displaying images and stories of the Chinese miners during the 1850s Victorian gold rush. The specially created menu will tell the story of how popular Chinese dishes in Australia came to be, brought over by the Chinese miners and adapted based on the availability of ingredients and their circumstances.
Start the evening with canapes and flowing drinks as you make your way around the restaurant, socialising and immersing yourself in the exhibits. At the table you'll enjoy the exclusively crafted menu with an address from David about the history of each dish.
