Georgian Polyphonic Supra

A long lunch with bread, wine and polyphonic songs

Bread, wine and a polyphonic supra make for a Sunday to remember.

New Northcote wine bar Gray and Gray is putting on a supra, a traditional Georgian party replete with Georgian wine, food and music. A tamada, a Georgian toastmaster, sits at the head of the table and leads the party in toasts, while polyphonic singers will be seated along with the guests and will start singing at random times throughout the afternoon.

Tsinskaro are four singers brought together by a shared musical obsession: the extraordinary harmonies of the traditional folk songs of Georgia. Described as "Melbourne‘s most exciting new vocal ensemble" by world music hub The Boîte, Tsinskaro brings to life the powerful and moving songs of this ancient culture, on the crossroads of Europe and Asia.

Georgian food. Georgian wine. Georgian music. Small producers. It's a spirited affair.
