Mother and daughter Farida and Durkhanai Ayubi, of Australia's most celebrated Afghan eatery Parwana, arrive in Melbourne riding a wave of success from a bestselling new book. And they're ready to share the flavours and stories that have made their restaurant a landmark for the food-lovers of Adelaide.
Collaborating with Coskun Uysal of Tulum fame at his Elwood restaurant Lezzet, Durkhanai and Farida bring with them the spice and insight, tradition and hospitality, loss and laughter that they have borne with them on their journey from Afghanistan to Australia. With Farida and Coskun cooking together, tracing the connections and contrasts between the food cultures of Afghanistan and Turkey, and with Durkhanai telling the Ayubi family story, this is sure to be a night to remember.
"The Parwana family is thrilled to be invited to participate in this year's Melbourne Food & Wine Festival," says Durkhanai Ayubi. "We're looking forward to cooking with Coskun and the Lezzet team, to bring to the table a blend of Turkish and Afghan cuisine - to explore the similarities and the distinctiveness of our cuisines, to celebrate our food as an expression of the memories of ourselves, and to honour the ways in which food connects us all."'
Durkhanai and Coskun will also be available to sign their cookbooks on the night, and will have copies of their respective books available for sale.
