Deck the halls, Melbourne: let's make the most of winter.

Christmas is coming early this year in Northcote and Thornbury. Like, really, really early. Cult bakery All Are Welcome has decided that we all need a do-over of the past year, and that a little Yuletide gaiety is the answer to our winter woes. They're bringing the vibe with Christmas-in-July offers running for four weekends next month, plus sandwich specials right through July.

Baker Boris Portnoy has said that panettone challenges even his formidable baking skills – "It’s less like baking dough and more like making mayonnaise" – but if what he produced last December is any guide, you won’t want to miss this.

In addition to that exquisite panettone, there’ll also be mince pies and Eccles cakes (we particularly enjoy ours with a slice of cheese), while those sandwich specials will run to Christmas ham and turkey.

As the crew put it themselves, "whether you missed out in 2020 or you’re looking to reunite your tastebuds with the Season’s Eatings, All Are Welcome has you covered. Some things are too delicious not to do twice."

No word yet on whether Portnoy will make the most of that fabulous snowy beard and don a Santa suit for the occasion, but we can only hope.
