Try as you might, there’s no pretending that family trivia nights on Zoom are any replacement for your favourite pub quiz. The good news is one of Melbourne’s finest both online and off, The Builders Arms Pub Trivia, is coming back, giving you a great excuse to skip this Friday’s family meet-up and let the pros take the reins.
Anchored by the host with the most, Cam Smith of 3RRR’s Eat It, the Builders’ trivia night has amassed a loyal following in its short life. If you’re one of the fans who have been missing sensory rounds, questions about obscure tropical fruit and hearing Smith’s favourite Pixies song each month, this week you can get your fix from home. And to round out the experience, the pub’s kitchen has cooked up something special too.
In a follow-up to the hugely popular virtual trivia that we co-hosted during Melbourne Food & Wine Festival: The Online Edition in May, Smith and The Builders crew are getting back in the ring. There’ll be three rounds of 10 questions, including the always-challenging sensory round, as well as plenty of Cam Smith™ banter along the way. You’ll need to head to the pub to collect your sensory kit, but that’s just a good excuse to pick up your dinner for the night.
The Builders is offering a duck curry (or cauliflower, if you’re more plant-inclined), in a tribute to London pubs and the curry houses of Brick Lane. Each curry comes with coconut rice, date chutney and fermented ginger beer made in-house. The Builders bottle shop will be fully stocked with the goods to get your Friday night off to a cracking start, too.
Quiz prizes include best team name, a lucky dip, the golden ticket and, of course, the glory of scoring the most correct answers. But really, seeing and hearing Cam Smith in full flight is a prize in itself. See you on Zoom, Melbourne.
