Cheese fiends rejoice, the Say Cheese festival is back.

Gruyère, cheddar and confit garlic tarts, vegan mac 'n' cheese and the ultimate toastie showdown are coming to the Prahran Market (and potentially your kitchen). 

Have you been looking for an excuse to spend big on artisanal grass-fed goat's cheese? Or perhaps a three-cheese fondue? Good news! Prahran Market's annual Say Cheese Festival is back for its eighth year across three days this month. While several market traders will be selling one-off cheese dishes over the weekend, this year the festival is also hosting four virtual events to enjoy from the comfort of your own home, featuring some of Australia’s favourite food personalities, including Diana Chan and Karen Martini.

It’s a cheese lovers' dream program, packed with events including cheese tastings, two guided cooking classes – with both milk and vegan cheese options – and culminates in the annual Grilled Cheese Invitational, a showdown of Victorian celebrity chefs going head-to-head to see whose toastie reigns supreme. 

For the first time, Melburnians can judge the competition themselves, with the chefs’ creations be available tp purchase and delivered to your door to finish at home. Last year’s winner, Jerry Mai will return as a judge, joining Herald Sun food writer Kara Monssen and Maker & Monger big cheese Anthony Femia himself.
