Step into the kitchens, stories, and hearts of much-beloved Melbourne restaurants at the Immigration Museum's Order Up: A City Fed by Many Cultures and experience the soul of Melbourne’s hospitality scene like never before.
Suspended in the air are thousands of handwritten, food-stained dockets, each a fleeting moment and a vessel of communication from the kitchens of 33 landmark Melbourne restaurants. These fluttering moments float between two immersive video portraits that encase you in a soundscape taking you to some of Melbourne’s most iconic kitchens.
Order Up invites you behind the scenes of local restaurants where meals are more than just food – they’re stories of resilience, identity, and home. A must-see for food lovers, culture seekers, and anyone who knows that the best stories are shared over a meal.
Order Up: A City Fed by Many Cultures is a collaboration between Melbourne-based artists Daniel Saade and Redmond Stevenson. Saade and Stevenson’s creative practice is grounded in the belief that Melbourne’s hospitality industry plays a vital role in immigrant integration – a perspective shaped by their own experiences and the journey and opportunities of Saade’s family.
