Feast for Freedom – A Longer Table is an immersive culinary and cultural experience that invites participants to share in a celebration of food, community and storytelling. As part of Asylum Seeker Resource Centre’s (ASRC) annual Feast for Freedom fundraising campaign, where people host shared meals with friends, family, or colleagues to celebrate culture and community while raising vital funds to support people seeking asylum, this signature long-table event brings people together to honour the resilience and contributions of refugees, while exploring the vibrant cuisines and cultures of Palestine and Sri Lanka.
Through the dishes prepared by Feast for Freedom refugee chefs, guests will embark on a sensory journey – flavoured with spices, layered with tradition, and enriched by personal stories of home, migration and belonging.
In a world that too often builds walls, we believe in building longer tables – where everyone has a seat, every voice is heard, and every story matters. This event is more than a meal – it's connection, empathy, and standing in solidarity with refugees by celebrating the cultural richness they bring to our communities. All proceeds from this event will go directly back into the ASRC, helping to provide vital support services for people seeking asylum.
A Long Table Dining Experience
Guests will share a communal table, dining on a curated menu created by refugee chefs from Palestine and Sri Lanka. Each dish tells a story – of home, of heritage, and of hope.
The dinner will be hosted at our Home of Hope in Footscray – the heart of the ASRC.

Hear directly from the chefs about the significance of the dishes, their personal journeys and the resilience of their communities.
Feast for Freedom impact
Funds raised and awareness generated support refugees and people seeking asylum on their journey to safety through the services provided by the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, ensuring long-lasting impact. By participating, guests not only enjoy an unforgettable evening of food and culture, but also stand with refugees and affirm the values of compassion and community.
