Is this Melbourne’s first self-guided degustation? From 16 to 26 October, South Melbourne Market becomes a snacking playground rich in local, seasonal produce. It’s called A Victorian Affair, and this is how it works.
Your ticket costs $99, and you might think of it as your very own snack passport. It gets you a total of 12 tasty things from a selection of South Melbourne Market’s favourite traders – yours to enjoy in the order of your choosing. You might begin with Portarlington mussels and sambal ginger at Claypots Evening Star, but you may just as well begin with a walnut and honey gelato at Fritz Gelato. Either way, you’ll be celebrating the excellent things growing in the state of Victoria and the breadth and quality of produce available at South Melbourne Market.
The snacks, and the Victorian produce contained within, are listed below, and there will also be free cooking demonstrations, talks and tastings aplenty. It runs twice daily (11am and 2pm) on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 16 to 26 October, and it’s set to be one heck of a delicious way to support local; see you in South Melbourne.
