Last night we were thrilled to announce Damien Neylon, Sous Chef, Brae (VIC), as the winner of the 2015 Hostplus Hospitality Scholarship.
Damien’s level of skill and dedication to his craft stood out from applications received from right across Australia, and from all backgrounds of hospitality.
He clearly has an incredible future ahead of him and we look forward to seeing the Scholarship prize help him to the next level.
Food is his passion. Starting out as a Bakers Assistant in 2004, he gained an Apprentice Chef position in the esteemed kitchen at Royal Mail in 2007. Damien has since worked his way up to Sous Chef at Brae, where he demonstrates considerable effort and dedication to further his knowledge and technique, both inside and outside of work.
We were delighted to also extend a year-long mentorship with a local industry leader to the worthy runners-up:
- Alex Croker, Cellar Door & Functions Manager, Bird in Hand Winery (SA)
- Angus Beaumont, Butcher & Charcuterie Maker, Du Fermier (VIC)
- Patrick Sullivan, Winemaker, Patrick Sullivan Wines (VIC)
Damien will be capturing his whirlwind trip across the world in July. Make sure you tune in:
