A collaboration between Collingwood brewery Stomping Ground and Pink Boots Society, which supports women in the beer industry, Island Time is coming to a bar near you.

People tend to reach for a beer to cool down, but Stomping Ground’s Island Time is bound to bring on the warm and fuzzies. The limited-edition brew was created for the Festival’s annual Bank of Melbourne World’s Longest Lunch, held this year on International Women’s Day. And it was developed and brewed entirely by women.

Made by local brewery Stomping Ground in collaboration with Pink Boots Society, an international group that raises the profile of the many women who work in the brewing industry, the beer is the handiwork of Charlotte Feehan, Stomping Ground’s Assistant Brewer and a certified Cicerone beer professional.

The brief for Feehan was to create a beer that would suit the World’s Longest Lunch menu crafted by chefs Karen Martini, Nicky Riemer and Lauren Eldridge for the lunch. The final product, Island Time, is a Belgian-style ale that features notes of hibiscus, coriander and orange and, to Feehan’s mind, evokes an island in the South Pacific.

Together with Pink Boots Society, Stomping Ground brought together approximately 20 women who work in all parts of the industry and invited them to participate in the brewing under Feehan’s direction, giving them hands-on experience and a chance to meet other women in the industry.

“It felt like a natural fit and a great occasion to work with Pink Boots to create a special beer for the World’s Longest Lunch,” says Stomping Ground co-founder Steve Jeffares.

While the beer was brewed especially for the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival and will be available at annual event River Graze (22-24 March), it’s also available for a limited time at the venues below.
